Love the Little Man

Do you ever have those days where you just want to snuggle your child and do nothing else? I've been having lots of those days lately. I'm sure it's because of these blogs that I have been following about tragic accidents that have occurred with little ones. One blog follows the story of little Bronson (15 months old) who drowned in the bathtub, was pronounced DOA (dead on arrival,) but made a miraculous FULL recovery and is doing very well. I followed his story closely as his family struggled from the day-to-day life of not knowing how things were going to turn out. It broke my heart, but made me realize so many things. First and foremost, what an incredible blessing life is and that no matter how bad things can get, God comes first and then family comes next.

Do I have days where I believe that Tommy in his terrible twos is going to drive me insane? You know I do. BUT,now when I have those "moments" I just think back to Bronson and think about what his family went through and how his mom only wished her child would be throwing a tantrum instead of laying in bed in a coma. That puts things in perspective real quick for me.

The other story didn't turn out as we had hoped. Little Sage was a 2 year old girl who would have "breathing spells" in which she would start crying and stop breathing and pass out. Well a couple of days ago she was playing upstairs with her 4 year old sister. She started crying (probably to get her way) and did the thing where she stopped breathing. The family is not exactly sure how it happened but they believe that she passed out and landed face first on the ground with a toy obstructing her airway so that she was never able to start breathing again after passing out. They found her without a heartbeat and not breathing. She ended up at the same hospital that Bronson was at. Unfortunately, I found out this morning that Sage went to be with the Lord. What a devastating loss. I can't imagine it,and don't want to imagine it. So heart-breaking.

So here I am. Taking in every second that I have to ENJOY Little Tommy and his unique little personality. Laughing when he is silly, and improving my patience when he is trying me. Remembering that I am blessed to have him as my child.

God is so precious. My baby boy is so precious. My husband is so precious. My family is so precious. Life is so precious. Let nothing get in the way of the things that really count.

Brown Soup and Ice Cream & Happy Birthday Levi

Happy Birthday Levi...You're 4 years old!!!

So yesterday I decided to have a nice "mommy and me" time with LT. So when it was time for him to wake up from his nap, I went upstairs and gently woke him up. He's very touchy these days and if "wrongly" awoken a melt down is inevitable. I'm pretty sure he's going through a growth spurt because he is sleeping like crazy and this is a radical change from the pattern over the past 3 months or so. As soon as his molars started coming in, he started waking up in the middle of the night, calling, "Mommy." This happened EVERY single night for at least 3 months. Now, over the past week, it's changed drastically. Not only is he sleeping solidly through the night and having to be woken in the morning, but he is taking a minimum of 3 hour naps (1.5 hours was the norm during the 3 month time frame) every day. So I have to wake him from his naps at 3 hours, or he'll probably go to sleep at 1 am.

As I was saying...I went to wake LT up and to make it sweet, I laid next to him and as his eyes were rolling around to the back of his head and eyelids fluttering, trying to open, I asked if he wanted to have some hot chocolate with mommy. Of course he tried harder to wake up and it was much easier, now that he heard the word "chocolate." He had never had hot chocolate so he didn't know what it was.

After going potty we went down stairs and made the hot chocolate on the stove top. We put some cool whip on it and sat down to share our drinks. We each had a spoon and our cups in front of us and he tried to drink it. Thankfully, I stopped him because it was so hot. I showed him how to use his spoon so that it would be cooler. When the cool whip or ice cream, as he called it, was gone, he finally started to get the hot chocolate. I asked him if he thought it was good and he said, "Yummy brown soup." How cute it that? I corrected him, but he kept telling people (grandma, Mimi, and daddy) that he was eating brown soup. So cute.

He had a pretty good day at school, other than a time out for not listening to Miss Jan, and having an accident in his pants (pee pee). When I got home and asked him if he went potty in his pants, he said, "Yes.[pause,pause]...Tooommmmyyyy." The tone was too cute. I'm thinking that when he did this, Miss Tana or Miss Jan, must have said to him, Tooooommmmyyyy...." So funny.

Anyway, today was uneventful. I made my first homemade chicken potpie. It was really good. It's too bad LT gets his pickiness from me. I guess he'll starve until he starts eating what's offered him. So frustrating!

One more thing. Not that I'm totally brainwashing my child, but when asked where the Packers live, he says, "Wisconsin." HE also knows that the Vikings are in Minnesota and that Brett Favre is number 4. Hmmm, I wonder how he knows this???

Have a good one!

Favre, Packers, and Poopy Pants!

What a game that was last night!!! I was so nervous, but wow, it was a good game. So I'm a Packer's Fan, but a Favre fan first. I came to the Packer's because of Favre. So I will follow him until he actually does retire and then it will be back to the Packers. People can say whatever they want, the guy still has it. By the way, I'm the only female in our fantasy football league and I'm the only one who is 4-0. What a great place to be in. I know it's driving the guys crazy.

Anyway, as for LT. He is still under the weather. I went for my annual visit today while he was in school. I got a call from his teacher saying that he pooped his pants and that I needed to get to him to clean him up. I was frantic because I was an hour away and already in the room waiting for the MD (gown and all). Tommy was able to get over to him and clean him up. He called me and told me that LT was very clingy and that it took him a while to get out of there. So I was not looking forward to talking to his teacher because I figured that she would tell me that it's not working out and that he needs to just try again next year. That didn't happen, praise God!!! I got there and she told me that she found out how smart he really is today. In the past, when he would get "antsy" during the lesson, Miss Tana would take him outside. So today, during the lesson he started whining thinking he would get to go outside to play. But, Miss Jan picked up on it and told him that he could go outside when the other kids went outside. He didn't go for it so he got a timeout. He got a second timeout for the same thing. But he finally got it. Miss Jan said that she couldn't believe how he breezed through his ABCs. She said that if he is smart enough to sit and say his ABCs, then he could sit with the class. She now knows that he's figured out how to manipulate the system. He whined, he got to play outside. He'll get this routine. He's a smart kid.

Other than that, we're just doing the same thing every day. Living life and loving it.

Fevers, Strep, and Tapeworms?

As crazy as things have been for the past few months, today was interesting. Little Tommy and I woke up to the ringing telephone at 9:50 this morning. It was daddy calling from the road on his way to La Jolla. Yup, that's right...we slept in. But, we were up a lot during the night because LT was running a fever. This was the final factor in my decision to call and get him in to see the doctor. He has had a rash on his left side and on his tummy since Saturday. I thought it was from his floaties at first. But, it hasn't gone away, and why is it on his tummy too? So paired with the fever last night, I decided he needed to get in to the MD. So we were pretty lazy most of the day. And I'm not sure if it's because he's not feeling so well, but he was an angel today. In fact he has been so good for the past week. Compared to the horrible weeks preceding, this is answered prayer. Anyway, the doctor tested him for strep and the immediate results came back negative. She did send the sample away for the 3 day culture, just to be sure. Also, I mentioned that he has been digging in his bottom a lot recently. So she gave me a lab slip to get a kit to test for tapeworm. Oh, puleeeez do not let him have tapeworm. That is nasty. Poor kid. Maybe he's just discovered a new "place" in his body. Who knows? I guess we'll find out in the next few days. I couldn't get the kit today because the lab was already closed. I work tomorrow. So it'll have to be Friday. Anyway, exhaustion has set in. I've got to be up bright and early tomorrow. We celebrate my birthday at lunch tomorrow, woohoo! I'll do my best to post something. No guarantees. I've never been good at keeping up with this kind of thing. Oh yeah, just for my future reference LT weighed 28 3/4 pounds today with shoes on and a full bladder, hehe.
